The idea of the small house architecture comes from architect and SmartSmallHouse co-founder Marc Lüllmann. Vastu is an architectural theory that takes into account the location of a building in relation to the cardinal directions and certain building proportions that have a positive effect on people when planning and constructing it. The most important factor is the building entrance, which must be either east or north. Vastu architecture emphasizes the use of natural and smart building materials. The building materials used are CLT (cross-laminated timber), wood fiber wool as insulation, and Roofit Solar roof panels. Plenty of storage space has been cleverly built into the interior spaces, which significantly reduces the need for additional furniture.
The buildings meet the Minergie A standard. Minergie is the Swiss standard for comfort, efficiency and value retention since 1998. Its main focus is on comfortable living and working conditions in both new and renovated buildings. High-quality building envelopes and controlled air exchange play a very important role in the Minergie requirements.
The buildings were tested for air leakage and the result never fell below 0.55 n₅₀ (1/h), which corresponds to the passive house indicators.
